Potential London Logistics Delays Due to Olympics
The London Olympics are right around the corner, and with the excitement of the games comes realities of congestion and regulations. The open ceremony for this summer Olympics is on July 27th, and it is important to come up with contingency plans if you are routing freight to, from, or through London.
London Logistics has Strict Regulations
Even when the Olympics are not in town, London has a heavily regulated transportation system. There are curfews for night and weekend transportation as well as limited route access during those times. There are emission regulations that determine age of vehicles allowed in the area. And there are various parking, loading, and congestion regulations. All of this combined with the volume of Olympic athletes, fans, and staff means that alternatives need to be evaluated.
Temporarily Alter Regulations
Fortunately, the Freight Transport Association (FTA) in the United Kingdom has been advocating for businesses to avoid delays and extra charges during the London Olympics. The FTA has helpful information regarding expected restrictions that will be put in place and other information regarding transportation during the London Olympics. The FTA is also advocating for temporarily relaxed regulations on things such as tolls and delivery curfews to help businesses working with London.
Start Considering Options Now
The penalties of simply going about business as usual could be large for your company. The chance of fines, surcharges, delays, and other penalties are very high if you are not prepared for the London logistics scene this summer. We will be keeping tabs on the situation and will continue to route your freight in the best way possible. The hope is to continue to avoid extra fees and delays.
