Holiday Shipping Requires Significant Planning
Shipping during the holidays does not have to be a source of frustration; however, smooth holiday shipping requires significant planning ahead of time. In the United States for example, Thanksgiving brings the logistics industry to a screeching halt on Thursday and Friday. However, when shipping internationally it is also important to be aware of holidays in other countries.
In addition to educating yourself on any potential holidays in the country that you will be shipping with, be sure to account for volume delays. Since holiday shipping creates significantly higher traffic, transit times may be longer than expected due to port congestion, customs clearance volume, and slower rates of discharge from vessels. For example the Romanian office of PNG Distribution is closed on December 1st Romania’s National day. Some countries like Spain there are 30 or more days a year where the whole country shuts down. The good news is that the trucking companies are fully aware of the complications that a sudden high volume can create, and they do a lot to get your freight to its destination in a timely manner. We can also help find a route for your freight that will give it the best chance of making it to its destination quickly if you give us a call at (877) 764-9441.
Most importantly, be as flexible as you can this holiday season. Try to handle your shipments as early as possible to make sure that your customers are satisfied even if there happens to be a holiday shipping delay.
Have domestic shipments? We can help with those as well! Head to PNG Logistics for more information.
